“等等”的一词多译

汉语的“等等”在英语中除了有拉丁文et cetera来的缩写词etc.外，还有以下常用的习惯表达法：

一、and so on, and so forth, and so on and so forth

1. She spends her day doing housework, watching television, reading, and so on.

她以做家务、看电视、看书报等等度过一天。

2. The grocer deals in tea, coffee, spices, and so forth.

该杂货商经销茶叶、咖啡、作料等等。

3. improvement of social conditions and so on and so forth

二、and the like

4. He studied painting, music, arithmetic, and the like.

5. His pocket was filled with nails, marbles, string, worms and the like.
